Painting exhibition "Planets in the desert"
1.9.-29.9.2023
The idea for the exhibition was triggered by my trip to America in autumn 2022. The landscapes in Arizona and Utah were strikingly reminiscent of landscapes I had painted before, which I had created from my imagination. The colours, shapes, lights and shadows were almost identical.
The "I've been here before" feeling was so strong that I painted mental images of that trip in the spring of 2023. It was exciting to do the same landscapes again, but now having actually seen and experienced them. In keeping with the before and after theme, the exhibition includes a painting of the same subject from 20 years ago.
The stunning canyons and the fierce thunderstorm in the middle of the wilderness were memorable
travel experiences. At times I felt like I was on another planet. This idea inspired me to add a series of planetary paintings I had done a little earlier to the exhibition. This gave the exhibition the name "Planets in the Desert".

Collective Homeland 9.9.-29.9.2023
An exhibition by Kommila Kollective's artisans combines Olli Huttunen's photographs, Väinö Makkonen's poems and Petteri Vaalimaa's soundscape into an experiential whole.
The photos were taken in Varkaus at different times of the year, the moments in the photos are highlighted by sound and the poems by cherishing the love of the homeland.
The event is part of Varkaus Days. Read more: www.varkaus.fi/varkauspäivät

PAX AMOR - an exhibition of professional artists bringing hope and comfort
The theme is deeply human and touching on many levels. It is approached from many different angles. The theme is topical, taking a stand on the state of the world. Alongside critical perspectives, we want to bring hope, joy and comfort through the exhibition. Art can help us to deal with difficult events in our time from the point of view of both the artist and the viewer.
The 11 artists in the exhibition are nationally renowned and make art using a variety of expressive techniques. In addition to the three artists from Varkaus, there are artists from Kuopio, Helsinki and Orimattila.
The exhibition is curated by Leena Mäki-Patola and Jonna Vinha.
RAKKAUTTA JA RAUHAA - children and youth exhibition
The children's and young people's perspective on the subject is important and makes us look at the world through different eyes. Art made by children and young people will be displayed in the summer café. The children's exhibition is in partnership with the Children's Cult.
Artists together with Taideniity will organise a peace parade in Varkaus on the day of Flora, 13 May 2023.
This is the second time the event will take place.

The procession will leave the square at 14.00 all the way to Taideniitty (next to the main church). You can join the procession along the way and leave it at any point along the route.
The Peace March highlights the importance of peace as a life-sustaining and vital force.

Paintings, acrylic: Caritta Lammenperä
Poems by Tiina Kontro-Heiskanen and Iiris Salmela
The mood, the idea and the values are free expression, mood and sensuality.
Absent is performance or projection by doing.
However, there is a sensitive and strong process and interaction between the artists.
Painting can come before the poem or the poem before the painting, things can also be completed and illustrated
along the way. There are also situations and outputs that each of the three has made their own and
captured the mood of the other. There is a randomness and a kind of intentional fatalism involved.
As artists, we have found the paintings and poems to complement, enhance and deepen
each other. We have received similar feedback from visitors to the exhibitions and from those who have experienced them. Thoughts and feelings may also have opened up in a different way from the experience of simply looking at or reading them.
The themes are femininity in its various forms, emotions, concretes of time and myths.
