Spring and summer in Taideniitty 2025
Our world together II 24.5 - 9.8.2025

Summer 2025 artists
The Room vol.4 group formed as if by itself in Vallila, Helsinki, in the Pälkäneentie studio complex, where artists Arttu Sailo, Jussa Pennanen and Juuso Joutsi have been working in the same space for about a year. The works of the artists, working in different parts of the same space, began to engage in an interesting dialogue independent of their authors at different stages of their creation process, and the impulsive, expressive and unfinished imagery of the paintings appeared as a link between their authors.
Our other artists of the summer:
Maria Rouvinen-Mäkelä (b. 1962) is a Finnish printmaker, particularly known for her combination of watercolour painting and printmaking methods.
Jonna Vinha (b. 1962, Varkaus) is a Helsinki-based multidisciplinary visual artist, especially known for her environmental art, performance art and paintings.
Ville Paganus is a Finnish photographer and musician living in Varkaus. His photographic works often focus on social issues and everyday aesthetics.
Romurinsessa is Marjut Kauppinen, an ITE artist from Lapinlahti who creates colourful and inventive works from recycled materials.
Hannes Aleksi is a Finnish sculptor whose works emerge from the memory of wood, not just as a material but as a form, a myth and a mental landscape.
Kaarin Oresmaa is a visual artist and art educator from Varkaus who is active in the local art community. She works at the Soisalo School of Art and Design
Lisa Räisä-Natunen is an artist and visual arts teacher from Varkaus who is active in art education and community art.

Warkaus Rock event 7.6.
The Warkaus Rock event on Saturday 7.6.2025 gathered a record crowd at the Old Varkaus Taideniity. Around 500 visitors enjoyed the beautiful weather, diverse rock music and relaxed atmosphere in the courtyard of the Artists' House. There is a clear demand for small-scale yard festivals - the event was well received by the public, with fans from neighbouring municipalities and further afield.
The seven-band musical extravaganza offered experiences ranging from lighter afternoon rock to the heavier punk and metal sounds of the evening. HaloShade, Paja, Sipomäki, Bätfish, Evil Asteroid, Nithral and Alt were all on stage. Bätfish and Nithral recently returned from their Asian tour, and Haloshade will also perform at the upcoming Kuopio Rock. Many of the bands can still be heard this summer on summer stages in local towns and cities. What all the bands had in common was a great energy and joy of playing that was transmitted to the audience.
The nostalgic wooden scenery of old Varkaus and the delicious food - especially the Fifty-Fifty waffle café - were praised by the audience. The event was free and open to all ages, and young people were also happy to find their way into the world of rock.
The event was created by Teemu Räntilä of Raato and Alt fame, and was organised by Markus “Heimopäällikkö” Rämö (Evil Asteroid), Arto “Artzi” Peltola Kalliokanerva (Raato and Alt) and Teemu and Kati Paananen of Taideniity. The Warkautelaiset ry was responsible for the organisation of the event, while the entertainment service Jack and Jay took care of the technical side of things.
Warkaus Rock is driven by a strong desire to provide performance opportunities for local and emerging bands and free cultural experiences for audiences of all ages. The event was supported by the city of Varkaus, local businesses and private sponsors.

Autumn 2023 in the Taideniitty

Painting exhibition "Planets in the desert"
1.9.-29.9.2023
The idea for the exhibition was triggered by my trip to America in autumn 2022. The landscapes in Arizona and Utah were strikingly reminiscent of landscapes I had painted before, which I had created from my imagination. The colours, shapes, lights and shadows were almost identical.
The "I've been here before" feeling was so strong that I painted mental images of that trip in the spring of 2023. It was exciting to do the same landscapes again, but now having actually seen and experienced them. In keeping with the before and after theme, the exhibition includes a painting of the same subject from 20 years ago.
The stunning canyons and the fierce thunderstorm in the middle of the wilderness were memorable
travel experiences. At times I felt like I was on another planet. This idea inspired me to add a series of planetary paintings I had done a little earlier to the exhibition. This gave the exhibition the name "Planets in the Desert".

PAX AMOR - an exhibition of professional artists bringing hope and comfort
The theme is deeply human and touching on many levels. It is approached from many different angles. The theme is topical, taking a stand on the state of the world. Alongside critical perspectives, we want to bring hope, joy and comfort through the exhibition. Art can help us to deal with difficult events in our time from the point of view of both the artist and the viewer.
The 11 artists in the exhibition are nationally renowned and make art using a variety of expressive techniques. In addition to the three artists from Varkaus, there are artists from Kuopio, Helsinki and Orimattila.
The exhibition is curated by Leena Mäki-Patola and Jonna Vinha.
RAKKAUTTA JA RAUHAA - children and youth exhibition
The children's and young people's perspective on the subject is important and makes us look at the world through different eyes. Art made by children and young people will be displayed in the summer café. The children's exhibition is in partnership with the Children's Cult.

12.8.-30.9.2022 Dance as mantra - a synchronicity between visual art and poetry
Paintings, acrylic: Caritta Lammenperä
Poems by Tiina Kontro-Heiskanen and Iiris Salmela
The mood, the idea and the values are free expression, mood and sensuality.
Absent is performance or projection by doing.
However, there is a sensitive and strong process and interaction between the artists.
Painting can come before the poem or the poem before the painting, things can also be completed and illustrated
along the way. There are also situations and outputs that each of the three has made their own and
captured the mood of the other. There is a randomness and a kind of intentional fatalism involved.
As artists, we have found the paintings and poems to complement, enhance and deepen
each other. We have received similar feedback from visitors to the exhibitions and from those who have experienced them. Thoughts and feelings may also have opened up in a different way from the experience of simply looking at or reading them.
The themes are femininity in its various forms, emotions, concretes of time and myths.

Spring 2022
Love and Peace - art exhibition. The exhibition featured related works by 20 artists. The exhibition was open from 1.5. - 30.7.2022
Protests against injustice, hypocrisy, greed and money power. A multidimensional approach to gloom through warm humour, gentleness and beauty. The theme of the exhibition was decided before the war in Ukraine, with the idea that we wanted to bring hope, joy and comfort through the exhibition, because times have been hard for many years. We did not want to be a source of further fear.
